It was a summer afternoon long back in 2004. I was about to decide my first book on music, Pakhawaj Tradition of India. And it came to exist like an obscured dream which I never had, but still sure about its presence. Its exact details and every turn into its long but never accomplished journey of ever sacred presence in my life. Without it, without music I’m always incomplete. My life is an insatiable quest to explore the unfathomable depth of sound of music and of course the deeper resonance of Nada that manifests itself in the divine rhythm of Pakhawaj.
Truly saying I’m into music from the very early childhood. My father Pandit Late Kalipada Das was my first guru. My talim was further took place in the able guidance of many Pakhawaj luminaries. They not only bought to me the gift of music. But also a sense for appreciation of music in all truest forms and schools. In my rich musical upbringing I came to close with many maestros.
Among them, Pandit Ramashis Pathak was one whom I adored very much. I had a close relation with him. His subtle but tremendous control over pakhawaj is one of my favourite till date. Under his tutelage Darbhanga Gharana was in real full bloom that saw its fruition in artistic brilliance in my time. So, nevertheless my book centered around it. Its inception took place very early and I was somehow destined to write this book, to discuss it with you in my way that I gathered in my musical journey…
